From “One Day” to Right Now – Life on the Road with Rob & Ange

There’s something rather magical about meeting people who simply decided… not to wait.

Rob and Ange are those people.

About three years ago, they did what so many of us talk about over a glass of wine or around a campfire — they sold everything, bought a motorhome, and hit the road. No grand master plan. Just a shared dream they’d spoken about since the early days of their relationship.

And when the time came?

They went.

Not perfectly. Not cautiously. But wholeheartedly.

When the Plan Becomes Real

Like many great adventures, theirs began with a “what if?”

A nine-week trip to the Northern Territory planted the seed. Then life lined up — the youngest child moved out, they spoke to a real estate agent… and suddenly everything moved quickly.

The house sold almost immediately.

Excitement met fear (as it often does), but they didn’t hesitate.

They bought a Winnebago and began travelling Australia, learning as they went, working along the way, and discovering that “semi-retired” doesn’t mean standing still.

Reinventing Life on the Road

One of the things I love about Rob and Ange is how adaptable they are.

They’ve worked on farms, in supermarkets, caravan parks, hardware stores, and even managed a golf course — a job that, for Rob, became a real source of pride.

But what stood out most wasn’t the variety of jobs.

It was their attitude.

They’re not chasing retirement.

They’re living.

Three months working. Three months exploring. Adjusting as they go.

And when they realised their motorhome was limiting where they could travel?

They changed that too.

When the Road Calls You Further

The shift from a Winnebago to an Iveco 4WD and caravan wasn’t just a vehicle upgrade — it was freedom.

Freedom to get off-road.
Freedom to reach remote places.
Freedom to say yes to more adventure.

And once again, everything just… lined up.

Vehicles sold. New ones found. All within kilometres of each other.

As they said, “all the ducks lined up.”

And off they went.

The Real Heart of Travel

If you ask them what matters most, it isn’t the destinations.

It’s the people.

The lifelong friends they’ve made along the way — people they reconnect with months later, sometimes going out of their way just to share a meal, a story, or a beer.

There’s something about meeting fellow travellers.

You don’t talk about the weather.

You talk about life.

A Different Way to Live

What I loved most about our conversation was how clearly they see the bigger picture.

They’ve met people travelling for all sorts of reasons:

  • Those chasing dreams
  • Those escaping hardship
  • Families raising children on the road
  • Others simply making the most of the time they have

And every one of those stories matters.

Because the truth is — there is no “right way” to travel.

Only your way.

Their Advice? Just Go.

If you’re waiting for the perfect time…

Don’t.

It doesn’t exist.

As Ange so simply put it:

“You’re never going to have the exact amount of money or the perfect moment. Just do it.”

And Rob added something equally important:

“Slow down. It takes months to realise you don’t have to move every day.”

That, right there, is the secret.

Final Thoughts

Rob and Ange aren’t chasing an endpoint.

They’re creating a life.

One where work supports travel, not the other way around.
Where connections matter more than possessions.
Where the road isn’t something to tick off — it’s something to live.

And perhaps the most beautiful part?

They’re inspiring others to do the same.
